My Story
I’m Chuck France, a Director, Cinematographer, and Still Photographer with a passion for visual storytelling. Growing up in the heart of the Southwest Missouri Ozarks, I was shaped by the values of family, community, and hard work—principles that continue to guide my approach on set. To me, filmmaking is more than just capturing images; it’s about collaboration, creating meaningful stories, and building relationships that extend beyond the production.
My journey began with a degree in History and double minors in Psychology and Anthropology from the University of Northern Colorado. I first entered the film industry working in production, art, G&E, and camera departments in Denver and Kansas City. Eventually, I transitioned into photojournalism, becoming an award-winning still photographer for The Associated Press, Getty Images Assignment, The Wall Street Journal, Time.com, Harvard University, and The Kansas City Star. Later, I spent six years as the Chief Photographer for The University of Kansas, where I provided stills, video, and managed digital assets for the Office of the Chancellor and the Marketing Communications Department.
Ultimately, my love for film production brought me back full-time to directing and cinematography. I’ve had the privilege of working on feature films, shorts, and television projects, and I’m proud to be a Rosco Ambassador and a Friend of The American Society of Cinematographers. Along the way, I’ve been fortunate to be mentored by Roy H. Wagner ASC - FRPS, a two-time Emmy winner and Kodak-recognized “Top 100 Director of Photography in the World.”
Previously, I served as a Sigma Cine Ambassador for five years, and I continue to be a Rosco Ambassador. I’m currently represented by Andrew Toth of ABL in Culver City, CA.
